After a long hot pre-season we’ve hit the ground running, with the
seniors, reserves and U18’s all winning their first three games in
convincing fashion seeing all three sides sitting in the top four (oops
I mean five) of there respective ladders
Round one at Langwarrin saw the colts defeated by a faster running
Langwarrin colts side, but that was all
Langwarrin were going to win on the day.
The U18’s after a slow start in the first quarter, hit there straps
keeping Langy to only one goal after ¼ time,
coming out winners by 27 points
The reserves continued where the U18’s left of, coming out winners by
33point in a hard and physical game, my highlight would had to have been
a Langy player running into Brendan (moving
pictures) Fortnam, in a fair sheppard the Langy
player came of second best, and was not seen for the rest of the game
after being helped from the ground.
The game everyone had been waiting for started at 2.15 with the reining
premiers taking on the new boys on the block.
Seaford came out with all guns blazing kicking six goals before
Langwarrin had realized the game had started, in fairness to
Langy, I think they may have been overawed by
the importance of the day, and settled down for the remaining three
quarters to make it a very entertaining day for everyone, with Kraz
kicking nine for the day.
Remember guys we were in the same position as Langy only a few years
ago, and I wish them all the best.
It was decided that, with ANZAC day falling on Saturday, the Seaford –
Chelsea game would be played on Sunday.
I woke Sunday morning our first home game, the day we were to raise
both, the seniors and reserves
2008 premiership flags.
It was blowing gale and freezing cold, and the weather didn’t improve
for the remainder of the day, which impacted on crowd attendance, It was
the worst crowd I had seen at a Seaford home game, It was decided that
we would postpone the unfurling of the flags for the following week.
The Colts missed out on a game of football due to South Mornington being
unable to field a side.
Once again, the U18’s were to set the scene for the day defeating
Chelsea by 21 points, with Muzza, Doyley and Rory leading the way.
In a close game that saw the lead in the last quarter change hands on
more than one occasion, the reserves held on to win by five points
giving Gooch his first heart attack for the season.
The word going around was that Chelsea had recruited well pre-season,
and after a convincing win over 2008 grand finalist Edi-Asp this was
going to be a very entertaining game, and that it was, with Seaford
coming out on top by 43 points.
Round 3 saw us taking on our friends down the road in Bonbeach.
Once again, the colts missed out on a game, this time due to Mt Eliza
being unable to field a side.
The U18’s were challenged from the first bounce with Bonbeach kicking
the first two goals before we managed to score, and they continued to
challenge us for the rest of the game and it wasn’t until the last
quarter the we kicked away winning by 45 points, the winning score was
not a true reflection on how close the game was.
Since the passing of Chris Smith, father of Luke, Nick and Jake, Seaford
and Bonbeach reserves have
played for the Chris Smith family shield, with Seaford and Bonbeach
playing of in the 2008 G/F this promised to be one rip snorting game. After
raising the premiership flag the game started and it wasn’t long before
Tom Shaw kicked one of his five for the first quarter, with straight
kicking for the rest of the game, Seaford ran out comfortable winners to
retain the Smith shield.
Bonbeach seniors lost to Langwarrin the previous week by one point and
had a point to prove, from the first bounce they attacked and led at the
first change by seven points, had they kicked straight it could have
been a lot worse.
The second and third quarters Seaford played the type of football we
know they are capable of, and the last quarter
Bonbeach
out scored us by a goal or two to Ant’s disgust, after pleading with the
players at ¾ time to start the last ¼ with a clean slate.
I would like to take this opportunity to once again welcome our loyal
sponsors without who’s support each year would be a struggle.
I would also like to welcome Enjae Catering who will be supplying us
with fine cuisine on Thursday nights and snacks Saturday nights post
match.
Finally, I would like to remind ALL players that with round 4 coming up,
they need to be financial and also have at least two player sponsors on
board.
Until my next attempt, at war and peace, good luck and may your shots at
goal be true.

Welcome to season
2009
Firstly to all players, sponsors and supporters
new and old,
Welcome to season 2009.
Well, what a history making year 2008 was for
SFC, with the seniors winning back to back
premierships, only the second time in the clubs history. The first
time was way back in 1926-27 and the first time that the club has
ever won senior and reserves premierships in the same season.
Congratulations go out to senior coach Chris Fortnam and reserves
coach Darren Godkin and all the players on your fantastic
achievement, you all certainly did
“CRAVE THE CONTEST”
The U18’s and Colts both put in fine displays, with coaches Frank
Tobin and Marty Hughes both proud as punch with their boys endeavour
and achievements.
The U18’s won through to the preliminary final, but, unfortunately
they were defeated by Mornington by 15 points. The Colts showed
continuous improvement throughout the season and even when under
manned, they never gave up.
2009 sees the appointment of one of Seaford’s
favorite sons, Anthony (Ant) Agius as senior coach, due to pressures
and time of starting a new business,
Chris Fortnam has stepped down as senior coach,
but will stay on as a player.
Anthony’s theme for 2009 is
" PUTTING IT ALL
ON THE LINE
”
which I’m sure he’ll be doing, so why don’t we all, players,
sponsors and supporters alike get behind Anthony by
" PUTTING IT ALL ON THE LINE ”
